True grit as Lambert battles through pain barrier

-

BRAVE Robert Lambert is in Poland today, along with team-mate Steve Worrall and former British champion Danny King, racing for Great Britain in the World Games.

The Newcastle pair, though, will be back on duty at Byker tomorrow (6.30) for a match against SGB Championship title hopefuls Edinburgh Monarchs, in which veteran Stuart Robson makes another home debut.

Lambert is ‘a real walking wounded,’ according to Newcastle co-promoter and team manager George English.

He said: “At Sheffield on Thursday, Robert raced with a strapped-up shoulder, arm, hand and leg as a result of recent on-track incidents yet he still managed to feature in what one Sheffield director told me were two of the finest races he had ever seen there.

“We came up against a very good Sheffield side and have no complaints about the result.

“Now we have to pick ourselves up and face a battle royal tomorrow against Edinburgh Monarchs. We are looking for revenge over Edinburgh after our defeat there a fortnight ago on the night Lewis Rose broke his collarbone.

“A few things upset everybody in our camp that night, in particular the length of time it took for their medical personnel to attend to Lewis.”

The last time Edinburgh came to Tyneside in May the Monarchs got a 45-45 draw and, with the Diamonds on a run of four successive defeats, the Scots will be looking for greater pickings on what should be a terrific night of speedway action.
