Life inside the £2million apartment block

UNIQUE CITY PROPERTIES ARE FINALLY ON THE MARKET

- By Ian Robson Reporter ian.robson@trinitymirror.com

AFTER months of building work, 10 luxury apartments at the Quayside in Newcastle have been put on the market.

The apartments are at Level One at Queen Street and are part of a grade-II listed building.

The accommodation is located at the corner of Princes Building built in 1863 and designed by William Parnell who, alongside John Dobson, was responsible for the best buildings in Newcastle.

And it is the mix of classic architecture on the outside with the ultra-modern design of the inside that has potential buyers buzzing.

The showroom is now ready and the rest of the apartments will be finished in about a month.

Already there has been one firm reservation and an open day on Saturday, following on from a previous open day last week, is expected to attract more interest.

Gavin Burn from Urban Base, which is marketing the apartments, says the mix of old and new is a selling point. He said: “The prestige of the exterior and the modern feel of the interior sit well with each other. It really is luxury, ultramodern living in a great area. You can be on the Quayside in seconds and the apartments are ideal for professionals, couples, anyone really.

“The showroom is ready now and the others are at varying stages of completion and are about a month away from being ready.

“Why should anyone live here? They are open modern apartments, low maintenance and easy to manage, in an area where things are happening.”

The accommodation is located up a short elegant flights of stairs, hence the Level One name.

With Prince’s Building just one street back from the Quayside itself, the homes boast views of the Tyne Bridge. the Millennium Bridge, Baltic, and Sage Gateshead.

There is a wealth of fashionable restaurants and bars just a short walk away and the brochure even mentions another unique selling point.

It says: “And when you run short of bubbly, the nearby Tesco Express is open late every night. “More importantly, Level One is the perfect location for those who work in the city centre or in the many offices, studios and workplaces stretching along the Quayside and

through to the Ouseburn. The nine twobedroom and one single-bedroom apartments are totally suited to both modern lifestyles and the splendour of their surroundings.

“The classic Victorian architecture and shape of Prince’s Building has resulted in imaginative and stylish layouts whilst the traditional high ceilings and large sash windows in each apartment give a rare experience of space and natural light.”

Aficionados will be delighted to know it features panelled Corinthian pilasters, arched windows with decorative keystones, balustraded aprons and rusticated quoins.

But no two apartments at Level One are the same.

Three feature an en-suite bathroom to the main bedroom and those located on the corners of Prince’s Building enjoy a wider aspect over the hustle and bustle of the city. Prices start at £145,000 for the one-bed apartment rising to £190,000, £200,000, £210,000, and £215,000. And if you want all 10, it will knock you back £1,940,000.

If you’re not convinced, living at the Quayside is a definite plus.

Earlier this year the Sunday Times said the Quayside was the best place to live in the North East after studying places all over the region.

They combined data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance with the local knowledge and expertise of its writers to compile the definitive top locations to make your home. The locations were selected for offering the best quality of life to the widest number of people, and combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces.

Even the quality of the local coffee was a deciding factor.

The open day will be held on Saturday between noon and 3pm. Turn up or make an appointment with Urban Base.
