NORTH riders enjoyed success at the Burgham BE Internatio­nal Horse Trials.

Pippa Allen on Hope Springs claimed the £1,000 Grand Prix event with Annabel Shields in second place on Carnoneybr­idge Challenger.

Holly Gair of Bowes Manor was the star of the Burgham Owen Pugh 1.05m Grand Final, winning with her mum Wendy’s ultraconsi­stent Bowes Milky Way and also taking second spot on Steve Gair’s Bowes All Alone. ■■NORTHUMBER­LAND defeated Gosforth 10-2 in the Newcastle and District Golf League.

Tynemouth were 8-4 victors against City of Newcastle and Tyneside overcame Blyth 9-3. ■■PRUDHOE claimed the Hadrian Golf League’s Plate title, finishing on 51 points from their seven matches.

Newbiggin were second with 47 points with Ryton nine points further behind in third. ■■SHOTLEY Bridge progressed in the John Armin Cup with a 20-run victory over Blaydon.

Batting first, the Bridge made 115-4 - Lewis Hall 56 not out with Blaydon 95-3 in reply. ■■DURHAM City beat Esh Winning by 36 runs in the Readers Durham Cricket League’s 15/15 Cup - City 122-4, Esh 86-9.

Tudhope also went through after Ryhope conceded their tie. ■■TWO North East walking football centres were nominated for an FA Mars Just Play Award at St George’s Park.

Blue Flames Walking Football Club and The Parks Sport Centre just missed out in the ‘Just Play Centre of the Year’ category but were recognised for their continued efforts in encouragin­g adults back into football.
