Angler of the week was Brian Dawson, from Sacriston, landing 20 and 15 trout over two visits, all to his own home-dressed fly patterns. Dave Park capped an excellent day with a super 4lb brown trout. S Oaks landed 15 trout for his visit while Paul Marshall caught 14. Damsel patterns have done really well as have several dry fly patterns including the Black Hopper.

Many hard-fighting rainbows were caught this week with Buzzers, Hoppers, Daddies, Shipman’s Buzzers, Diawl Bach and PTN top fly patterns. Dave Parker from Wallsend caught all four trout species in Chatton Lakes including a cracking Tiger trout of 6lb all to dry flies. Gary Burton from Wallsend caught an excellent 8lb 4oz rainbow from the Ross Lake.

week of top-class surface sport. The secret was cloud cover coupled with light breezes. Robert Anderson from Gateshead caught nine trout in a very productive evening session. His successful flies were Black Shuttlecoc­k Buzzers and Sedgehogs and most fish were taken close in. Peter Dawson returned 12 caught on dries. Moving tactics paid off as well as casting to rising trout. Various Black Dries, Bibio, Clan Chief, Cats Whisker and Orange Blob were top flies.

Some 75 anglers caught 210 trout to 6lb 9oz in a week when heavy rainfall rose the reservoir levels significan­tly. Top areas this week have been Matthew’s Linn, Tower Knowe and Kielder Waterside for the bank anglers. Boat rods did well at the C200 Bridge, Gowanburn and Belling Inlet. Hoppers, Cats Whisker and Green Lures did well for the fly angler. Bait rods did well with Powerbait, worm and spinning baits.
