DURHAM’S Shincliffe Juniors can kick on this seson - thanks to a £3,000 Grow the Game grant.

The grant will enable the club to provide more coaching and develop new under-12 girls and under-15 boys teams.

Two new coaches will also be taken on to work with those squads.

Grow the Game is a £2.5m programme funded by the FA and the Football Foundation.

It awards grants to grassroots football clubs who wish to create new teams.

Dave Glover, Chairman of Shincliffe Juniors said: “From the very inception of the club we have been committed to nurturing grassroots football and making it as widely available as we can.

“Our ethos is based on inclusivity so we can grow and sustain a club which offers young players an opportunity to enjoy football, have fun and grow in confidence in a safe and supportive environment. “This grant from the Football Foundation will help us to extend this even further.” England manager and Football Foundation Ambassador Gareth Southgate, said: “I am so pleased Shincliffe Juniors has secured this Grow the Game grant.

“The club has worked very hard with Durham County FA and the Football Foundation to get more local people playing football so they can enjoy the many physical and mental benefits which come with playing regular sport.”
