Lambs slaughtered by four-goal Blyth

-

BLYTH Spartans head for Gainsborough Trinity tomorrow night buoyed by their first win of the season.

Spartans’ Vanarama National League North campaign is up and running after they opened with two defeats.

Tamworth felt the full force of Blyth’s attacking prowess, the Lambs on the wrong end of a 4-2 defeat at Croft Park.

They were Blyth’s first goals since promotion, former Gateshead striker Reece Styche scoring twice for Tamworth.

It was a good afternoon as Blyth rediscovered their touch in front of goal, Jarrett Rivers and Dan Maguire both prominent.

The pair were among the scorers, Ryan Hutchinson and new boy Dale Hopson, from the spot, Blyth’s other marksmen.

Blyth had to come from behind, manager Alun Armstrong (pictured) pleased with the response but not the manner of the opening goal. He said: “The way we gave the goal away was really poor, but once we got the first goal it lifted us and we played fantastic stuff at times.

“Losing the first two games without scoring was disappointing and we have had to adapt to the quicker tempo and increase in quality.

“However, even in those defeats against Alfreton and York we created chances and could have taken something from the games.

“We had to make sure we beat Tamworth.

“There is still work to do defensively but we are always going to score goals.”

Sean Reid made his first appearance off the bench, Gateshead loanee Macauley Langstaff then coming on at the death.
