Lazzari at the double as new boys kick off campaign in style

BLYTH Spartans Reserves joined the division with a bang when they triumphed 4-0 at Winlaton Vulcans.

An early own-goal set the Spartans on their way before a Karl Lazzari double in the second half sealed the points, Peter Murray with a deciding fourth at the death.

The goals flowed elsewhere as nine came at Whitley Sporting Club (5-4 against Gateshead Redheugh), eight at Blyth Town (in a 4-4 draw with Spittal Rovers) and six at Bedlington (4-2 against Willington Quay Saints).

Liam Shanley and Dan MacDonald (with two penalties) both bagged braces for Sporting, Liam Blythe also netting with the visitors replying through Reece Richardson, Joe Macintosh, Matthew Wilson and Robbie Barnaby.

It was also a see-saw game at Blyth as Jack Fennell scored early and late to earn a share of the spoils for the hosts,

Marco Lambert, Stuart Coyle and Connor Lough had Rovers 3-1 up at the break, Coyle adding his second sandwiched between strikes from the hosts’ Chris Lisle and Sam Watts.

At Bedlington all six goals came in the final 35 minutes.

Karl Porter opened the scoring for Bedlington, Chris Conway hitting the first of his double.

Joe Connor notched twice for the visitors in between Conway’s brace before Andrew McLenan added a fourth for Bedlington late on. Five goals were scored at Blyth FC (3-2 against Wideopen) and Cramlingto­n United (3-2 against Seghill).

Craig Webb (Blyth) and Scott Thompson (Wideopen) both notched doubles while at Cramlingto­n counters arrived through Billy Pullman, Jordan Sawyers and Niall Younger - Calvin Oldham and Liam Bainbridge replying.

Whitburn Athletic defeated visitors Coundon and Leeholme 3-0, Liam Donnelly, Jordan Howe and A Chapman scoring.
