McCrory’s bold plan to help fighter

-

NEWCASTLE-BASED Glenn McCrory is working in Culdaff, a northern outpost of the Republic of Ireland, to get his fighter ready for a title chance.

Sean McGlinchey is to face Gerard Healy for the Celtic middleweight crown at the Devenish Complex in Belfast on October 6 – and he is receiving plenty of star-studded help.

Aside from trainer McCrory, a former IBF world cruiserweight champion himself, McGlinchey has been sparring with the unbeaten Jason Quigley, who won the vacant NABF middleweight strap last time out, as well as cruiserweight and former Junior Olympic gold medallist Michael Gallagher and Thailand-based lightmiddleweight John Hutchinson.

McCrory said: “Sean is getting in some terrific work and is looking really sharp at this early stage of his preparations.

“Jason Quigley is world-class of course – he is now based in California but is a Donegal lad and is over home at the moment.

“His dad Connor also brought across Michael Gallagher who Sean handled extremely well.

“John Hutchinson is working with me because he has come home to try and win the Irish title.

“He is a good kid and having beaten Healy he can supply us with good inside information.”

McGlinchey, a Commonwealth Games medallist, has won both his pro bouts to date but McCrory added: “Healy is vastly more experienced – he has had five times the paid fights Sean has had.

“However I believe McGlinchey can handle him okay.”
