BLYTH Spartans ran out 4-2 winners in the Vanarama National League North for the second time in four days as they came away from Gainsborou­gh Trinity with all three points.

Dale Hopson, Nathan Buddle, Sean Reid and Dan Maguire were on the scoresheet for Alun Armstrong’s side, who were grateful to keeper Peter Jameson for a penalty save with the side 3-2 ahead.

Three goals in five minutes gave Spennymoor Town a 3-0 over Bradford Park Avenue.

A Glen Taylor brace and a single Andrew Johnson goal all came within five first half minutes for Jason Ainsley’s men.

Darlington lost their 100% record this season but remain unbeaten after an impressive 0-0 draw at York City.

South Shields won their first home game in the Evo-Stik League North in front of an impressive attendance of 1,776 at Mariners Park.

First half goals from Carl Finnigan and Barrie Smith, and second half strikes from Michael Richardson, Matty Pattison and Jamie Holmes gave the Mariners a 5-0 win over Brighouse Town.

In Northern League Division One, Paul Brayson’s brace helped Newcastle Benfield to a 2-2 draw at West Auckland Town.

West’s goals came from Ben Wood and Nathan Fisher.

Ryhope CW came out on top in an entertaini­ng affair against Stockton Town, thanks to a hat-trick from Joe Melvin.

His three goals in 12 minutes helped Ryhope to a 3-2 win and means Stockton are still looking for their first win of the season.

A Craig Gott penalty and a Curtis Round goal gave Marske United a 2-1 home win against Sunderland RCA.

Ash Davis’ late winner gave Seaham Red Star all three points against Newton Aycliffe.

Jake Stafford and Liam Thear helped Dunston UTS to a comfortabl­e 2-0 win at Washington

In Division Two, Alnwick Town were 3-0 winners against 10-man Bedlington Terriers and a Kallum Broadhead volley gave Whickham a 1-0 home win against Darlington RA.
