Moor are the merrier after a Top result

SOUTH Moor Sports were in goalscorin­g form as they started the season with a convincing victory over Consett Top Club.

With David Gray scoring three, Phil McGee and Jamie Leathard two each and Jake Stafford and Craig Suggett also netting, they beat their guests 9-4.

Dan Parker notched twice and Michael Bell and Jon Swift once apiece in reply.

Consett Scotch Arms also picked up three points as they left Castleside Horse and Groom with a 6-2 win.

Andrew Rennoldson (2), Anthony Donaghy, Gary Holliday, Joe Johnson and an own goal were credited in their favour, Rio Connelly striking both of Groom’s counters.

Dan Maddison’s brace and Joe Gill’s single helped newlypromo­ted Oxhill Central to a 3-1 success at Consett Cricketers Ex-Juniors, who had Paul Castledene on target.

Seven efforts from Rob McConnell allowed Consett The Barn to get their Division Two campaign off to a flyer.

They immediatel­y shot to the top of the table by hitting double figures, defeating Stanley RAFA 12-2.

To go with McConnell’s tally, Dan Peacock and Liam Limond both bagged braces and Liam Davison claimed one.

Billy Middleton and Alex McPhail hit consolatio­ns for RAFA.

Stanley Ball Alley nearly matched the Barn’s scoring achievemen­ts as they too got out of single figures, inflicting a heavy 10-2 defeat on Consett Station WMC.

Both Iain Curson and Ryan Armin hit hat-tricks, Ben Harvey, Grant Parker, Callum Allaker and Craig Rice also finding the net.

Paul James and Mark Coates registered for Station.

Lanchester Cricket Club picked up the points as two goals from Steven Smithson and one apiece from John Lawson and Dan Fodden saw them to a 4-0 victory over East Stanley Masons.
