Ormston puts on a late show to earn draw

GARY Ormston’s late goal gave North Shields a hard-earned 2-2 draw at Shildon in Division One of the Northern League last night, writes MARK CARRUTHERS.

The Railwaymen’s goals came from Michael Rae and Adam Burnicle, James Luccock putting the Robins back on level terms after Rae had put the hosts ahead.

That result meant Morpeth Town took over at the top of the table.

The Highwaymen secured a 5-0 win against Whitley Bay, all the goals in the second half with Sean Taylor and Liam Henderson among the marksmen.

Ben Harmison’s 88th-minute goal kept up Ashington’s impressive start to the campaign.

They were 1-0 winners at managerles­s Bishop Auckland.

David Palmer’s 69th-minute strike gave Jarrow Roofing their first win of the season - 2-1 at Penrith. Consett were 2-0 victors at Guisboroug­h Town thanks to a second-half brace from Michael Sweet (pictured left).

Team Northumbri­a won the battle of the newly-promoted sides with a 2-0 success against Billingham Synthonia.

In Division Two, a late goal gave Jarrow a 1-0 verdict in the South Tyneside derby against Hebburn Town.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion bounced back from their 8-0 home hammering against Billingham Town in impressive fashion.

Finishes from Martyn Hepple, Liam Anderson and Callum Turnbull gave them a 3-0 result at Willington.

Chester-le-Street Town inflicted a first defeat of the season on Blyth AFC as they prevailed 1-0 at South Newsham.

A goal in each half gave Northaller­ton Town a 2-0 victory over Esh Winning.

Brandon United triumphed by the same scoreline at home to Crook Town.

Dean Imray’s late effort secured a point for Heaton Stanningto­n against Tow Law Town.

Goals from Dean Thexton and Matthew Soulsby turned the game on its head after Lee Johnson had put the Stan ahead in the first period.

Elliot Mitchell’s first-half hat-trick helped West Allotment Celtic to a 3-1 verdict over Thornaby.
