Holiday fun for a great cause

-

FAMILIES are invited to pitch headlong into a day of fun on Bank Holiday Monday - all in a great cause.

Kingston Park Community Association Football Club in Newcastle is hosting a day of sport, food and fairground entertainment to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Its Bank Holiday Family Fun Day will take place at Kingston Park Open Spaces area, which is next to the Metro Station car park, and is open to all.

Beginning at noon, activities promise something for all ages and for adults there will be a five-a-side tournament while those with young children can entertain them with a bouncy castle and fairground rides.

But behind all the fun, the very serious aim will be to raise as much as possible for the cancer charity.

Kevin Richardson, secretary of the club which caters for seven to 16-yearolds, said that organisers were inspired to host the event following a similar one they recently held as a show of support for one of the young players who had been diagnosed with leukaemia.

He said: “All proceeds made on the day will be donated to a charity that we are sponsoring both on and off the field as it is close to the hearts and minds of those involved with the club.” The tournament, which will consist of 15-minute matches, is open to over16s of both sexes and of all abilities. Anyone wanting to take part can enter teams of five to seven players who will be organised into teams catering for those who want to play more competitively and those who just want to enjoy a bit of a laugh. Following the tournament, there will be an outdoor BBQ at local family pub Twin Farms where burgers, hot dogs and fries will be served free of charge to the adult participants and junior players who are registered with the club. The fun day, which will run until 4pm, will also include a raffle and auctions. Kevin added: “We’re really looking forward to it and raising money for an excellent cause: finding better ways to detect and treat cancer.”
