Metro concerns for United games

THE football season has just kicked off, so here goes.

The train arriving at North Shields on Sunday, August 13 at 11.30am was nearly full but passengers – mainly NUFC supporters – managed to get on and by the time we had reached Wallsend the carriages were crammed.

Can our Metro train providers not check Newcastle United’s fixture list and put a couple of extra trains on, on match days?

Last season the escalator on platform one at St James’ Park Metro station broke down seven times, so a bit of a slog for fans before the match.

I am in my mid 70s and this is not the exercise my doctor recommends.

If the cause of the escalator breaking down is too many fans travelling on it, why not have one of your Metro staff for directing fans at the foot of the escalator?

Autumn is approaching, dark damp nights coming in and leaves falling from their trees.

No doubt thanks to TV companies taking over the game, night-time matches will be arranged and maybe, just maybe, Newcastle will have a run in the cups.

The stairs leading from from the Gallowgate End down to the St James’ Metro station are poorly lit. With rain and leaves falling on these stairs lots of fans hurrying to catch their train and to get home these stairs require more lighting for public safety reasons.

Last but not least, any chance of NUFC selling Christmas cards this year? I have tried to buy NUFC Christmas cards at the club shop these past two years to send overseas to Toon supporters but was informed no Christmas cards.

Why not get a few thousand Christmas cards printed this year? Rafa needs extra funds, every little helps and the money should come in handy for the next transfer window. DAVID THOMAS, North Shields
