How about this for a team triumph

-

HIGH Howdon SC regained the Northumberland CIU Five-Man Team Championship title at King St SC with a 3-0 victory over Seaton Terrace SC.

In a match which was not as easy as the score suggested, all three of the Howdon players were made to work hard before triumphing in their individual contests.

Howdon’s Paul McHugh had to contend with a lot of good tactical safety play before clinching his frame 62-15 against Marc Thurlbeck with a late 37 clearance.

Mark Livingstone made it 2-0 for the Howdon squad after seeing off Martin Young 60-37 with the help of a small mid-frame run of 20.

Requring a win to keep his team’s hopes alive, Seaton’s Paul Forster played well against Peter Holland. who led 54-27 with just three balls in play.

Foster fought back to gain one of the two snookers he required but it was the more consistent Holland who potted both the blue and pink to sew up the frame 65-32 and the match 3-0.

Livingstone has had one of the most successful seasons of any player to have competed in the North Shields Snooker League.

He won every competition he was eligible to play in, which included the four-frame aggregate Crichton Cup in billiards and the Six Red Ball Doubles with John Gales.

Livingstone’s latest success came at St Teresa’s, where he defeated Chirton’s John Brown 3-0 in the final of the League’s Singles Championship.
