Durham boys round off summer in style

-

DURHAM Under-15s rounded off their season with a four-wicket victory over North Yorkshire at Masham Cricket Club, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

Durham lost the toss and North Yorkshire decided to bat, their skipper Tom Dowson falling early for seven.

A solid partnership between Matthew Roberts (21) and Tom Starky (35) took North Yorkshire to 75-3 but once both were out the hosts lost four wickets for no runs, being bowled out for just 124 in 58 overs.

Jonathan Bushnell was the pick of the Durham bowlers with 4-19 from 10.3 overs while Miles Birbeck bagged 3-4.

North Yorkshire started brightly in reply, dismissing both Durham openers cheaply, but 48 from Luke Doneathy in 70 balls and 47 from Bushnell in 82 balls led Durham to 127-5 at the close of play.

Oliver Barrett (30), Lachlan Marron (20) and James Hindmars (19) added runs on day two as Durham were bowled out for 210-5 to lead by 86 runs. Roberts fell early in North Yorkshire’s second innings - but a second-wicket partnership of 127 between Tom Starky (67) and Tom Dowson (61) took North Yorkshire to 142-2.

Barrett dismissed both batsman and the home side began to crumble as Luke Doneathy nabbed 4-20 from 8.3 overs and Barrett 2-35.

Durham dismissed North Yorkshire out for 185 in 55.5 overs and required 100 from 20 overs to win.

Birbeck went early in Durham’s reply for three along with Williams but a quickfire 29 from Doneathy in 24 balls put Durham back on track. Bushnell then saw his side home with 50 - including three fours and two sixes - in 40 balls as they reached their target in 18.2 overs.

GREENSIDE won the Durham Under-15 Champions Trophy with a nine-wicket victory over Seaton Carew.

The Hartlepool-based side batted first and only scored 56-7, thanks to a terrific opening-bowling spell from Dylan Murray, who took 3-5.

Greenside took just 13.5 overs to reach their target, Ross Greenfield scoring 30 not out in their 57-1.
