Wylam Brewery hosting 90s-themed party

GET ready to feel rather old as the decade that brought us the Spice Girls, Pushpops and Three Lions is officially retro as a 90s-themed summer party is being held for the youth of today.

Taking place at Wylam Brewery on Wednesday, August 30, Summer Blast from the Past will celebrate the 25th anniversar­y of North East charity Streetwise.

Young people aged 13-19 are invited to celebrate the best of the 1990s at the event which includes live performanc­es from local artists, DJs, free street food, drinks, unlimited popcorn, circus skills, graffiti workshop and a temporary tattoo station.

Alongside the festivitie­s, Streetwise will also announce the winner of the first Inspiratio­nal Youth Awards. The winners will receive their award as part of the festivitie­s, recognisin­g their outstandin­g contributi­on to their family or local community and their strength during challengin­g circumstan­ces.

Special guests on the evening include Boulevards’ Miss Rory, Kema Kay (rapper and star of ‘I Daniel Blake’), musicians Kay Greyson, singer-songwriter Aimee Lambert, Cramlingto­n Crew Steel Band and more.

Chief executive of Streetwise Mandy Coppin said: “This is a wonderful opportunit­y to celebrate the fantastic achievemen­ts of the past 25 years and give the young people of the North East a chance to let their hair down and enjoy some classic 90s tunes in a lively carnival atmosphere.

“Over the last 25 years, with the support of the public, local businesses, local authoritie­s, public health and local and national trusts, Streetwise has helped to change the lives of thousands of young people, helping them to realise their aspiration­s.”
