Injury-time penalty earns Shildon point

IT WAS second against third in the pick of the matches in the Northern League’s top tier.

Gary Forrest took his West Auckland side back to his former club Shildon and came away with a point.

But it could have been so much more, as Matty Robson’s injurytime penalty gave the Railwaymen a point in a 2-2 draw.

Ben Wood gave West the lead with an 11th-minute strike, but Adam Burnicle grabbed an equaliser in first-half injury time.

The visitors looked to have claimed the points with an Anthony Bell penalty seven minutes from time.

But Shildon claimed a point when Robson kept his cool from the penalty spot in the second minute of injury time.

Morpeth Town stay top of the table after a 1-1 draw against Ashington at Craik Park.

Joe Walton gave the Highwaymen the lead after nine minutes, but they had to settle for a point after Craig Scott’s equaliser five minutes from time.

Sunderland RCA built on Saturday’s derby win over Ryhope CW with an impressive 2-1 win at Consett. A brace from Nathan O’Neill was enough to give RCA all three points.

Craig Gott and Danny Earl were on the scoresheet as Marske United were 2-1 winners against Newton Aycliffe.

And Colin Myers secured the first win of his second spell as Bishop Auckland manager with a 3-2 win over Penrith.

Northaller­ton Town stay top of Division Two after Aaron Ramsbottom’s 83rd-minute goal gave them a 2-1 win at Darlington RA.

Jarrow FC made it six games unbeaten with a 0-0 draw at Alnwick Town.

Gary Shaw scored the only goal as Hebburn Town came away from Easington Colliery with a 1-0 win.

Whickham made it six games unbeaten with a 3-1 win at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion.

Sam Hedley, Owen Lancaster and Chad Collins got the goals for the Lang Jacks to secure their fifth win in a row.

Goals from Gary Day and Andrew Bulford gave Blyth AFC a 2-1 home win against Bedlington Terriers.

Billingham Town held Thornaby to a 0-0 draw, despite being reduced to 10 men on 24 minutes when Michael Jameson was shown a red card.
