Vera’s still on the case

FANS GIVEN GLIMPSE OF ITV’S VERA FILMING ON DOORSTEP

Reporter MUCH loved TV detective series Vera gave fans a glimpse of the show being filmed on their doorstep.

The eighth series of the ITV hit following the cases of DCI Vera Stanhope was being filmed in Whitley Bay yesterday.

Actress Brendra Blenthyn was pictured in Vera’s trademark hat and overcoat approaching the detective’s battered Land Rover, as filming continued.

Cast and crew have been pictured around the North East since filming for the Northumberlandbased drama began in June.

The production team, which is expected to be in the region until November, has been covering quite a stretch with scenes shot in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in Northumberland and Peterlee in County Durham.

Seaton Delaval, Blyth and Seaton Sluice will also feature in the new series, with Whitley Bay the latest location to be chosen for the new episodes. Ken Anderson noticed the film crew taking over The Links car park on Monday and tweeted: “Vera is still on the case at Whitley Bay. Links car park is full of the production crew equipment... Big job.” Ann Cleeves, the local author whose series of Vera Stanhope novels inspired ITV1’s award-winning series, writes a new book every other year, alternating it with one for her Shetland series which has also been made into TV gold. And, with the TV production team playing catch-up, there are set to be plenty more adaptations to look forward to on the small screen. Ken Anderson
