Chef’s passion and pleasure

WHAT’S ON EDITOR GORDON BARR HAS NEWS OF HOW IT’S ALL CHANGE AT POPULAR JESMOND RESTAURANT SOHE

-

ASIAN cuisine restaurant Sohe has exclusively joined forces with award-winning chef Parichat SomsriKirby, bringing her signature style and expertise to the Jesmond establishment for a new dynamic dining experience.

Under the guidance of Parichat – or Pla to friends and her talented team – Sohe has re-launched as Parichat at Sohe. New extended opening hours see lunch and dinner served seven days a week, between 12pm and 2.30pm, and 5pm and 10pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sunday it’s open 3-10pm.

Parichat grew up on a rice farm in Northern Thailand, where she started out cooking for 300 school children before meeting her husband Steve Kirby and moving to the UK in 1998.

As Pla trained to cook in European kitchens in North East England, she was able to push her skills beyond what she had learned back home in Asia.

Following her dream to bring the very best South East Asian food to the North East, she joined Terry Laybourne’s 21 Hospitality Group in 2002, going on to become head chef at the popular Café 21 in Fenwick, Newcastle.

Parichat has since been named ‘North East Chef of the Year,’ demonstrating her talent and knowledge, as well as her creativity and culinary instinct.

“I’m passionate about making ingredients speak for themselves and expressing my journey through food, and Parichat at Sohe will provide the perfect platform to present a fusion product that can do this like none before,” she said.

“The North East food scene is exceptional with so many fine eating establishments, and Sohe itself has always been highly regarded for Asian cuisine. It’s been a pleasure working together with the team to create an offer completely new to the region.”

Sohe is owned and managed by hotel and bar operator Cairn Group. Naveen Handa, director at Cairn Group, said: “We are thrilled to announce our new-found partnership with one of the North East’s most celebrated chefs, whose experience and specialist skills are unmatched. With Parichat on board, Sohe has entered a new era offering some of the finest Asian cuisine in Newcastle, with dishes sure to become famous for their flavour.”

To celebrate the launch, there is 20% off food* being offered for the first month from now until September 17, 2017.
