Wotherspoo­n takes his treble chance to stun leaders Bedlington

BEDLINGTON lost the leadership when they crashed 2-1 at mid-table Prudhoe YC and Blyth Spartans Reserves edged a seven-goal clash at Cramlingto­n United 4-3.

Spartans’ Karl Lazzari notched early on before a hat-trick from Liam Wotherspoo­n, his last from the spot five minutes after the interval, cancelled out strikes from United’s Antony Brannon, Ross Snaith and Luke Taylor – while at Prudhoe all three goals were scored during a 15-minute spell prior to the interval, Sam Brown scoring what would prove to be the winner.

Blyth Town enjoyed a comfortabl­e 5-2 win at Seghill.

Blyth, however went down 3-2 at Whitley Sporting Club and Wideopen won 1-0 at Spittal Rovers.

Six goals were scored at Winlaton who, hosting Willington Quay Saints, were two down at the interval after Ben Graham and Joe Connor notched.

It was not until the final 20 minutes the Vulcans got back into the game courtesy of strikes from Dean Hall, Andrew Wright, Adam Cameron and Conner Miller.

Whitburn progressed to the next round of the Durham Minor Cup with a comfortabl­e 5-0 success at Gateshead Rutherford A.

Adam Bravey hit a hat-trick along with efforts from Grant Willis and Michael Ventress.

Coundon and Leeholme also went through to the next round on the back of a convincing 4-1 home result against Gateshead Redheugh.
