Arca calls for ‘back to basics’ after defeat

- MARK CARRUTHERS

ARGENTINIAN midfielder Julio Arca wants South Shields to “do the right things” as they look to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Colwyn Bay.

The Welsh outfit inflicted a first defeat in forty-five games on the Mariners, who now turn their attention towards tonight’s Evo-Stik North game at Colne.

The 4-2 reverse at the Llanelian Road was the first time Arca’s side have tasted defeat since a home loss to North Shields in November 2016.

Ahead of the trip to Lancashire, the former Sunderland and Middlesbrough star is confident that his side can get back into the winning habit at the first attempt.

Speaking to the Mariners website he said: “The last defeat was North Shields at home, so that tells you how good the team has been.

“The thing is how we are going to react and we have a good chance to react on Tuesday.

“To go back to basics and do the right things and hopefully get a win”

Defender Darren Lough and midfielder Matty Pattison missed the trip to Wales with groin and knee problems respectively.

However, both players could come back into contention for the Colne game and Arca believes that no matter who is selected, the Mariners will be fully-prepared.

“We have got a good squad, a strong squad, so no matter who plays on Tuesday, I am sure they will put in a good effort there.

“It’s another travel, but we will be prepared. I am sure that the lads can’t wait for Tuesday to hopefully get a win.”

Colne currently sit in seventeenth position in the Evo-Stik North table and had a free weekend after their home game against Bamber Bridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
