TRAFFIC & TRAVEL UPDATE
BY CAR: Narrow lanes and a speed restriction of 30mph are in force at Silverlink, North Tyneside due to long-term roadworks.
The A189 Killingworth Road is closed between West Farm Avenue and A191 Benton Park Road to widen the road and replace the bridge.
A lane is closed on the A167 southbound in Gateshead for roadworks between A184 Charles St and B1296 Old Durham Rd/B1426.
BY BUS: The Atkinson Rd-Buddle Rd roundabout in South Benwell, Newcastle, will be closed for resurfacing between 9.30am and 3.30pm today and tomorrow (weather permitting). Route 1 towards Buddle Rd will divert via St John’s Rd, Adelaide Tce, Benwell Ln and Hodgkin Park Rd before re-joining the normal route on Armstrong Rd (at Atkinson Rd Primary School). Route 1 towards Slatyford will run as normal along St John’s Rd and Armstrong Rd. Route 32 will divert via St John’s Rd and Adelaide Tce before re-joining the normal route at Benwell Ln.
The A1/A69 Denton interchange is closed from 8pm until 6am the next morning until Friday, 29 Sept, for resurfacing. Routes 10, 39, 40, X82 and 685 will be diverted in both directions from the Silver Lonnen roundabout as far as Hillhead Parkway (service 40), A69 Westbound (services X82) or Union Hall Rd (services 10 and 39). Use alternative stops along Hillhead Rd and West Denton Way.
BY METRO: Today, both lifts at Benton station are out of use from 9.30am until 3.pm. The staircases and bridge will open as normal. Step-free access between platforms is possible via Station Road. The walking route between the platforms is about 400m. Anyone unable to use this route is advised to continue their journey to Four Lane Ends or Northumberland Park and return to Benton. BY TRAIN: No expected disruption.
