Moses heads Stateside for showdown with fellow North Easterner

-

STILL on the American theme, Lewis Moses is hoping to impress his hosts when he takes in the San Francisco ParkRun while on holiday next week.

The Gateshead Harrier, recent winner of the Quayside 5k and an invited competitor for last weekend’s Great North City Games one mile, plans to attack the course record of 14min 59secs when he will face, among others, fellow North East athlete Ryan McLeod.

Now 30, Moses (pictured) has been hit by illness and injury over recent years but he feels the time is right to make up for lost time.

“It’s been very frustrating – just when you think an injury has cleared up something else flares up,’’ said Moses.

“Fingers crossed though, things seem more hopeful now and it was good to get an invite into the mile at the Great North City Games. “While I didn’t threaten the leaders I was quite happy with my run, and to finish just three seconds adrift of Gricey (Charlie Grice) wasn’t too bad.’’ Now Moses and his wife head for the States, where he will tackle the Crissy Field ParkRun, which is a prelude to taking in the the world middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

“I’m really looking forward to the trip, and while the ParkRun challenge with McLeod will be interesting I’m excited about the boxing in Las Vegas,’’ added Moses.

“It will also be a bit of a holiday which I’ll use as my break before getting back into training when I get home.”
