BIRTHDAY boy Dillon Morse was South Shields’ match-winner as they bounced back from their defeat at Colwyn Bay with a 2-1 win at Colne.

Michael Richardson had given the Mariners the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Chris Lynch headed the hosts level just after half-time, but Morse celebrated his twenty-third birthday with the winning goal.

The win keeps the Mariners top of the Evo-Stik North table.

In Northern League Division One, West Auckland Town returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at Marske United.

Amar Purewal scored a brace and Nathan Fisher got the other goal for West.

Danny Earl had equalised for Marske after Purewal’s opener.

Sonni Coleman, Fred Woodhouse and Max Craggs were Stockton Town’s goalscorer­s as they claimed their first points of the season with an impressive 4-1 win at Sunderland RCA.

Jonny Murray’s late header proved to be the difference as Penrith were 2-1 winners against Newcastle Benfield.

Paul Brayson had given Benfield the lead with a sublime free-kick, only for Dean Rae to get the Bonny Blues back on level terms with an equally spectacula­r effort.

Consett won a five-goal thriller against North Shields.

Calvin Smith, David Dowson and Jordan Lavery got the goals for the Steelmen in a 3-2 win.

Gareth Bainbridge scored both of the Robins’ goals.

Northern League Second Division side Crook Town were 1-0 winners at Division One Washington.

Daniel Pigg got the only goal of the game for the visitors.
