Wintery weather is coming ahead of weekend

-

DON’T expect any Indian summerstyle temperatures this weekend as biting winds are on their way down from the Arctic.

Meteorologists say a maritime flow is on its way down to Britain, with the country squeezed between high pressure in the west and low pressure in the east.

This, forecasters say, will drag in northerly winds with blustery showers and rumbles of thunder.

In the North East, we can expect temperatures to top around 13C tomorrow and 14C on Sunday.

This time last year, much of Britain enjoyed highs of 20C.

Forecaster Hannah Findley, of The Weather Channel, said low pressure associated with Storm Aileen would be located in the Baltic Sea by Thursday with winds beginning to ease across the UK.

She said: “Wind speeds are forecast to be moderate in the British Isles and across the Northern European Plain, and up to gale force in the Baltic, but generally easing from the west through the day.

The Met Office’s forecast for the North East is as follows:

Today: Scattered showers will continue through the day, with a chance of lightning. Some pleasant sunny spells are likely between showers, but feeling cool. Maximum temperature 15C.

Tomorrow to Monday: Sunshine and scattered showers tomorrow, sometimes heavy with a chance of lightning, and cool northerly winds. Fewer showers are likely on Sunday and Monday with sunny spells and lighter winds.
