MEDICS SAY CANCER HASN’T PROGRESSED

Reporter A MUM has been handed promising news as a fiveyear-boy continues his fight against cancer.

With just one round of treatment to go, there was a major step forward for Kian Musgrove as he received his latest scan results.

Mum Kat was over the moon as medics in New York told her the neuroblastoma Kian has been fighting has not progressed.

The Prudhoe schoolboy has spent more than a year travelling back and forth to America for treatment.

But now the end is in sight after another round of treatment earlier this month.

Kian has spent most of his life fighting the childhood cancer, which has a very high relapse rate.

Kian and Kat, 29, will fly to America for the final course of treatment in January after almost two years of waiting and fundraising.

Kat said: “When he gets to New York he’ll get scans again and a vaccine, and that’ll be it. Then we’re just hoping he’s going to be OK once he’s had the treatment.

“We need to get lots of follow-up appointments, hoping to get them arranged in England, provided everything’s OK at that time.

“The doctors are saying they’re happy with him at the moment, there’s no sign of progression.

“He can still relapse but we’re just hoping that doesn’t happen. He seems good in himself at the moment.”

Kian, who returned to school at Prudhoe West this week, was first diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in October 2013.

The cancer attacked the nerve cells around his kidneys on an adrenal gland where a tumour had developed.

It then spread to his bones and across his pelvis.

After treatment to kill off the disease, the cancer came back in December 2015 and he started undergoing treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, in New York, early last year.

His family are continuing to raise funds to help towards his treatment, which costs thousands of pounds.
