Season set for a very grand finale
NORTHUMBERLAND LG PREMIER DIVISION
PROMOTION and relegation issues will be decided tomorrow as the last ever Northumberland Cricket League season concludes.
All eyes will be on the bottom of the Premier League and the top of Division One.
Next season’s merger sees the Premier League become the Northumberland and Tyneside League Division Three.
Champions Blyth will move up to Division Two (previously NTSL A2) while Benwell and Walbottle drop down into Division Three next year.
Bottom side Stobswood welcome Blue Flames tomorrow needing to secure a maximumpoint victory.
It will be a hard task for last season’s Division One champions, who have lost their last 11 matches.
Stobswood, 25 points from safety, face a Flames side who could yet finish runners-up.
Either second-bottom Cramlington or Berwick will play in Division Three next season the two separated by only three points.
Cramlington play hosts to Ashington Rugby while Berwick travel to Warkworth.
Blyth welcome fourth-placed Blagdon Park.
Backworth will look to finish runners-up when they host Whickham while GEMs entertain Corbridge. ■■THERE is a four-team battle in Division One to see who wins promotion tomorrow - with Bomarsund, Whitley Bay, Clara Vale and Whickham Seconds all in with a chance.
Bomarsund, league leaders for most of the season, host fourthplace Vale, who have slim hopes of promotion.
Bomarsund require nine points to be certain of promotion.
A Clara Vale success would still leave them hoping Whickham and Whitley Bay do not earn maximum bonus points against Backworth and Warenford respectively.
The match sees four of the division’s top bowlers in action with leading wicket-taker Riaz Mohammed (46) and Naveed Iqbal (34) in Vale’s side.
