DURHAM Under-16s suffered two losses to rivals Yorkshire at Weetwood and Pudsey Congs, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

In the first game, rain resulted in the match becoming 44 overs a side - the Tykes winning the toss and inserting Durham.

Durham soon found themselves struggling on 41-4 with skipper Adam Khan, Jonathan Bushnell and Cameron McKnight all departing early.

A 67-run partnership between Angus Guy and Matthew Adamson steadied the ship as the visitors progressed to 108-5.

Guy led the way with 64 from 94 balls, along with 31 from Adamson and 25 from Matthew Oswell, as Durhan amassed 190-8 from 44 overs.

Vikram Sharmed bagged 4-23 for Yorkshire.

Durham were on fire in reply as Oswell dismissed Yorkshire’s top three batsman, leaving the Tykes 24-3.

Brodie Glendenning and Aaron Feroz both struck once - but 62 from Hamza Ilyas and 55 from Owen Tennant saw the Tykes home by six wickets with four overs to spare.

Oswell finished with 4-25 from nine overs.

Durham went down by eight wickets in their second friendly at Weetwood Cricket Club.

Durham won the toss, elected to bat and found themselves struggling at 17-4.

A knock of 42 from Bushnell in 64 balls boosted his side but, with only Adamson (11) and Oswell (13) making double figures, Durham were bowled out for 89 in 30.3 overs.

Quarmby, Leech, Sharma and Sullivan all picked up two wickets each.

Yorkshire made light work of the run chase as Matthew Revis scored an unbeaten 40 backed by 22 from skipper James Wharton. ■■THIS winter youngsters aged 16 and 17 will be invited to attend Durham County Cricket Club’s open trials covering pace, spin and wicketkeeping - with a chance to represent Durham in the ECB County Championship.

Full details will be announced in Grassroots Sport soon.
