Floor-midable effort by top Deerness trio
A TRIO of gymnasts from Deerness Gymnastics Academy have successfully defended their titles at the British Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool.
In one of the most jaw-dropping disciplines in the sport, seven acrobatic gymnastics from the Durhambased club returned from Merseyside with not just a gold medal and a national title but a silver and a bronze medal too.
Caitlin Owston, Amelia Pamler and Bethany MacDougall struck gold in the 13-19 women’s group competition.
Cara Winship and Georgia Hewison claimed silver in the women’s pair 11-16 age group category.
Katerina Dubov and Tatiana Dubov were bronze-medal winners in the 12-18 women’s pair section.
The golden acrobatic trio have also been selected to represent Great Britain in the forthcoming European Championships.
Great Britain is one of the most respected nations in the world in acrobatic gymnastics and has achieved success at world and European level with medals in all categories - many of which have been won by gymnasts from Deerness Academy.
Stuart Thompson, head of acrobatics at Deerness, said: “These were fantastic results for our allfemale team.
“It is great for Deerness to have more young talent coming through and a great achievement for any gymnast to win a medal at the British Championships. All of our competitors this year have shown such commitment and put in hours of hard work in training with their coaches to develop to a high enough level to compete at a national championship.
“To receive another international call-up is also great news for the club and its gymnasts and the whole club will be getting behind them at the European Championships.”
