Chief Sports Writer JAMAAL Lascelles has admitted he is in the mood to make the most of his hot streak in front of goal.

The Newcastle United skipper headed home his second winning strike in the space of seven days against Stoke City at St James’ Park to fire the Magpies into the top four of the Premier League on Saturday night.

Now Lascelles is looking to add to his tally and feels he can achieve exactly that with Matt Ritchie also in such fine form.

Speaking about the moment in which Ritchie’s corner fell perfectly for him at the Gallowgate End, Lascelles said: “I thought: ‘Just attack it’.

“I think I should have scored in the first half, which I was pretty disappointed with, so I felt like I needed to make up for that.

“Matt Ritchie’s deliveries are unbelievable. I feel like I can get a few goals this season with his crosses – especially when teams are marking zonally as well.”

Lascelles was also delighted with the team performance overall and added: “It just goes to show how much character we have.

“A couple of seasons back, we would go a goal down or concede a goal and heads would drop.

“We would be looking at each other and saying: ‘Who is going to step up?’

“Nowt everyone steps up – the 11 of us. This group of boys is excellent – we just keep going.

“We are an ambitious bunch of players, we are a really tight group of lads and we are all friends.

“We work hard for each other on the pitch.”
