A top day for Spartans and for Bedlington

THE top two both enjoyed comfortabl­e weekend wins.

Blyth Spartans Reserves prevailed 5-2 at Whitley Sporting and Bedlington defeated visitors Cramlingto­n United 4-2.

At Whitley Bay all seven goals arrived in the second half as Liam Wotherspoo­n scored twice for the visitors along with an own-goal before the hosts hit back through Liam Blythe and Dan McDonald.

The Spartans extended their lead in the final third with counters from Andrew Murray and Karl Lazzari.

At Bedlington, Joe Moscrop claimed a second-half hat-trick to earn Bedlington a victory over United, Sheldon White notching with five minutes remaining.

Niall Younger netted twice for the visitors either side of the break.

Blyth enjoyed a comfortabl­e 5-1 result at home to Spittal Rovers as James Barrett struck twice in the opening 15 minutes.

He was joined on the scoresheet by Sam Johnson, just after the half hour, Ryan Stafford and, in the second half, Callum Donohoe.

The visitors replied through Connor Lough early on. Prudhoe Youth Club secured a 6-0 home win over visitors Gateshead Redheugh.

Wideopen, for whom Harry Johnson celebrated a second-half brace, triumphed 3-2 at Willington Quay Saints.

Coundon’s 4-2 win in the League Cup over Division One opposition in Hebburn Reyrolle came as Jordan Maughan and Bede Malloy bagged a brace apiece.

Connor McClean replied with a double of his own for the hosts.
