Saints go marching in

SUCCESS IS JUST LOVELY JUBILEE FOR THE EARLY LEADERS

-

SAINT Paul’s Ryhope are the early Premier Division front-runners after triumphing 7-1 at Jubilee Church Teesside.

Jack Bell got the Sunderlandbased side off the mark.

Paul Brooke then made it 2-0 but Jubilee were back in the match from the penalty spot when Patrick Carr converted.

If the first half was tight the second half belonged to Saints as Brooke added his second, Anthony Young bagged a brace and Alan Laverick and Kieran Davis also notched.

Axiom also have a 100% so far but are not scoring as many goals as the Saints.

They claimed a 2-1 success at Jesmond Parish Church.

Dan Smith claimed his goal from the penalty spot in the first half, Luii Kavari netting earlier in the second period.

Tom Hicks netted in the last five minutes but it was too little too late as Axiom secured a precious away victory.

The only other Premier Division match took place in Sunderland as YAV SIFF took on North Shields Community Christians.

In a up-and-down match the first half ended 2-1 in favour of the Christians.

Daniel Bland netted after five minutes for Shields, Hanifi Sakli equalising two minutes later.

Conor Higgin, after half an hour, put North Shields ahead from the penalty spot.

North Shields had the first opportunity to wrap up the match when they were awarded a second spot kick.

Higgins again sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to give his side a 3-1 advantage just before the hour.

With the match going into the last 10 minutes, Seth Ejikwu struck twice to tie the match at 3-3 - and neither team could then find the winner.

In Division One, the two frontrunners are the teams who were relegated last season - Saint Charles RC Church and Saint John Snod’s Edge.

Saint Charles won 3-2 at Stockton Salvation Army, who took the lead after just 17 seconds through James Lile.

It took Saints almost half an hour to shake off the disappointment when Duncan Falconer equalised.

Tom Martin netted just before the break for Saints.

Two minutes into the second half Martin took a free-kick and planted it into the top right-hand corner for 3-1.

David Higgins reduced the deficit for the Teessiders with seven minutes left but Saints held on to win 3-2 and go top.

Saint John’s Snod’s Edge sit second thanks to a 5-2 result at Praise Christian Church International.

Scorers for the victors were Michael Clark (3) and Ross Wilson (2) with Sagnia Ousaniou and Romeo Munhupedzi on the mark for Praise.
