Longstaff is in line to be Cherry-picked

-

NEWCASTLE United youngster Sean Longstaff is being watched by fellow Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth,

The Cherries had tracked the 19-year-old last season but Newcastle handed him a two-year deal before loaning him out to Blackpool.

Since then Longstaff has performed fantastically for the Seasiders, scoring four times and creating three more goals for Gary Bowyer’s side.

Blackpool would love to keep Longstaff at Bloomfield Road beyond January when his current loan deal runs out - but there is also a clutch of Sky Bet Championship clubs interested in offering him a crack at life in football’s second tier.

Joining Bournemouth’s talentspotter in the main stand during Blackpool’s 3-1 home win against Oxford United at the weekend were scouts from Bristol City, Barnsley, and Bolton Wanderers.

Newcastle are pleased with Longstaff’s progress so far but want him to continue gaining firstteam experience before returning to pre-season training next July.

Speaking about his progress this season Bowyer said: “Sean is a great kid who has greatly changed physically and mentally in the time he has been here.

“Long-term he is going to be a very good player.

“We are delighted he chose to come and play football with us.

“He has a smile on his face day to day but he knows there are areas of his game he needs to improve on.

“He had had a loan spell at Kilmarnock so we were aware of him and we watched him in games.

“He has done ever so well, he is developing fabulously and he is getting game time - which is what he wanted.”
