Men quizzed over alleged sex attack at student flats

RAPE detectives have questioned two more men over an alleged attack at student flats.

The men, both 18, were arrested in connection with the sex crime, reported to have happened at Knoll Court accommodat­ion, near Manors Metro Station in Newcastle, last week.

Police were called to the block, on Melbourne Street, at around 3am on Friday, after a passer-by came to the aid of a distressed woman she found outside the building.

When officers arrived the 20-year-old woman told them she had been raped.

Two men, also 18, were initially held before the latest arrests were made, bringing the total number of suspects questioned to four. All have now been released under investigat­ion.

Northumbri­a Police are appealing for informatio­n.

A spokesman for the force said: “An investigat­ion into the rape is ongoing.

“The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers in Northumbri­a Police’s Safeguardi­ng Department.

“Extra officers have been in the area of Knoll Court carrying out enquiries into the rape and to reassure anyone who has any concerns.
