Morse makes it three in a row as South sail to victory

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

FIRST-HALF goals from Carl Finnigan and Dillon Morse were enough to give South Shields all three points with a 2-0 Evo-Stik North win at Ossett Town.

In the 33rd minute, a handball on the goal-line led to the dismissal of Albion defender Anthony Mackie and a penalty for the Mariners.

Carl Finnigan stepped up and sent Leigh Overton the wrong way to put his side ahead.

The lead was doubled two minutes before half-time as defender Dillon Morse scored for the third consecutive game.

The former Blyth Spartans centre-back produced a powerful header as he rose to meet a Matty Pattison free-kick, leaving Overton with no chance.

The Mariners lead at the top of the table remains at two points after second-placed Glossop North End’s 3-2 win at Droylsden.

North Shields moved up to seventh in the Northern League Division One table with a 2-0 win at Newton Aycliffe.

An own goal from Andrew Grant-Soulsby gave the Robins a 35th-minute lead.

However, they had to wait until a minute from full-time to secure the points.

Winger Dean Holmes produced a cool finish, rounding Aycliffe keeper Jack McLaren, before tapping the ball into the empty net.

Two goals inside the first eight minutes moved Whitley Bay into the top half of the table with a 2-0 win over Penrith.

A diving header from French midfielder Thibault Charmey put them in front on two minutes and striker Andy Robertson doubled the lead six minutes later.

A Thomas McAloon brace secure a first away win in the league for Bishop Auckland.

The former Middlesbrough academy winger scored a goal in each half in their game at Jarrow Roofing.

The hosts were forced to replace captain Darryl Donnelly midway through the first half when his partner went into labour.

Dennis Knight pulled one back for Roofing, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors taking the points.
