Police probe after attack
TWO CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER INCIDENT
SEARCHES are continuing at the scene of an alleged attempted murder.
Two men have appeared in court in connection with the incident, which happened during the early hours of Monday, and put a 38-yearold man in hospital.
However, there is still a heavy police presence in Kenton, Newcastle, where the alleged attack is said to have happened.
And neighbours have told how officers have been seen searching drains, and asking residents for CCTV.
Police were called to a home on Columbia Grange shortly before 2.30am on Monday.
They found a 38-yearold man had suffered serious injuries and there had been a fire at the property.
The man was taken to hospital and firefighters extinguished the blaze.
His injuries were initially thought to be lifethreatening, but he is no longer in danger and his condition has now been described as ‘stable.’
A local resident, who did not want to be named, said police had been knocking on doors asking for information.
He told the Chronicle: “The police are still around the area. They have carried out searches of bins and drains around the area. They have been knocking at doors asking for CCTV footage.”
Anthony James, 37, of Colgrove Place, Kenton, and Anthony Slater, 41, of Ambridge Way, Kenton, have been charged with attempted murder and arson with intent - reckless as to whether life would be endangered.
Both appeared before South East Northumberland Magistrates Court.
The case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court where the defendants will appear next month. They were remanded in custody.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said investigations were continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting log 44 18/09/17, or Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.
