Peter Crowe and David Park were top rods this week with 16 trout each. Small Buzzers did really well, with the larger fish falling to black patterns with lime green cheeks.

Some excellent blue trout have been stocked and some of the resident browns are becoming more active. Cats Whisker, Suspender Buzzer and Daddies were also effective fly patterns.

DERWENT RESERVOIR 01207 255250 / DH8 9TT

Consistent sport continued again this week with some top-quality trout caught, many of which were in the 3lb class.

Richard Abbott and Ray Whaley both had limit bags for 17lb and 18lb using Powerbait Eggs and Magic Dust. Fly anglers did well at Millshield­s and west of the sailing club. More tagged fish have been stocked.

Anglers are advised to be careful when wading as there are several boggy areas due to levels falling.

Fly anglers did well with a variety of fly patterns, from lures to Heather Fly and Daddy Long Legs. Powerbaits and spinning lures did well for bait rods.

FONTBURN RESERVOIR 01669 621368/ NE61 4PL

Some 62 anglers caught 256 trout to 3lb 8oz in a week that improved as it progressed. The Halliwell family caught 11 trout for 17lb 1oz, with sisters Kacy and Miley catching well.

Alan Bate and Sid Barnes had bag limits for 14lb 8oz and 14lb respective­ly. Gareth Rickerton took a fine 3lb 8oz rainbow. John Lawton from Dinnington took the top catch with eight trout for 10lb 4oz, along with 12 others returned.

His effective fly was the Olive Damsel and he also landed a tagged trout worth £200. Olive Damsel, Daddies, GRHE and Dunkeld were top flies. Pink Powerbait Eggs and White Mice Tails were top baits.

GRASSHOLME RESERVOIR 01833 641121 / DL12 0PW

A total of 103 rods caught 275 trout to 3lb. A Emery took his bag limit on Orange Mice Tails. Simon Nesbitt took his bag limit for 16lb 9oz. Colin Parnaby caught eight on Orange Powerbait Eggs. Bibio, Kate McLaren, Dawsons Olive, Daddies and Heather Fly were top patterns. As well as powerbaits, float-fished worm and spinners took plenty of trout.

HURY RESERVOIR 01833 641121 / DL12 9UP

Roving anglers did well as trout are well spread now. Ian Cook from Bishop Auckland took his limit on Cats Whisker, including one of 3lb. His success was fishing with a slow retrieve.

James Hunter also caught his limit of eight fish on Dawson’s Olive and Kate McLaren. A Phillips took his four trout on Buzzers, allowing them to drift on the breeze.

Black dries, Muddlers, Shipmans Buzzer, Heather Fly, Bibio, Dawson’s Olive and Cats Whisker were the best flies. A reminder about the Hury Classic Fly Fishing Competitio­n this Sunday, September 24 with a 9am registrati­on. £350 of cash prizes are up for grabs.

JUBILEE TROUT LAKES 01388 772611 / DL2 2UH

Top rod this week was Phil Totten from Lanchester with 15 trout to 3lb 1oz. Alan Corr from Wingate caught a 3lb 6oz rainbow on a size 16 Olive Buzzer.

Anglers had to suffer some high winds, but in general sport was good. Intermedia­te lines worked best. Top patterns were: Damsel, Green Montana, Olive Buzzer and Black Tadpole.

KIELDER WATER 01434 251000 / NE48 1BT

Some 63 rods caught 94 trout to 4lb 1oz. Turbulent conditions had anglers looking for shelter in the quieter bays.

The Wilson family fished the tip of Whickhope Inlet landing 11 trout for 28lb 12oz, including the 4lb 1oz rainbow. Worm and Powerbait were their successful baits.

Mr Johnson took four good trout averaging over 2lb on fry patterns at Hawkhope. Orange Blob and Cats Whisker were top flies.

LANGLEY DAM 01434 688846 / NE47 5LD

Sport is really on the up at Langley with Daddies, Hoppers and various nymphs doing really well.

Trout are also chasing fry in the margins. Dave Middlemast was top rod, catching 22 on Beamish Killer and Cormorants.

D York landed eight on Damsels and Daddies, while D Turnbull also caught eight on Cats Whisker. D Passmore and K Pick both caught seven trout, while many other had five-fish bags.

SWEETHOPE LOUGHS 01830 540349 / NE19 2PN

A slow week followed by an excellent weekend saw some great sport. The Lower Lough was producing great sport, and Peter Davidson returned 26 rainbows, while Ali Tait returned 23. Eddy Keers returned 17.

The Great Lough also gave some fine sport with John Williams and David Duncan bringing 23 to the boat. Andy Campbell and John Brown shared a catch of 19 on Sunday.

The Fly Tiers Guild Competitio­n was won by Malcolm Halliman. Imitative patterns did well, as did Ace of Spades, Black Snake, Olive Fritz and Zonkers.

THRUNTON TROUT FISHERY 01665 574400 / 07795 0026

Cooler conditions saw better sport and some larger fish figuring in catches. Paul Pratt took the largest trout at 14lb. Among the big catches was Willie Emery with 10 on Buzzers and Lures.

Arthur Leach from Washington also landed 10 to Damsels and Silver Invicta while Alan Nixon released 10, including a 13lb brown trout.

David Kay from Morpeth caught 17 for his visit on Buzzers, Hoppers and Chamois, while Paul Pratt released nine on Bloodworm, Buzzers and Daddies. Imitative patterns scored this week.
