Helping those who can’t help themselves
TODAY WE TALK TO HELPING PETS NORTH EAST
Tell us about your group.
We are a registered charity that is run entirely by approximately 30 volunteers.
We were founded in 2012. At Helping Pets we take in and foster unwanted and neglected pets. Some of these will also need rehabilitation as well as extra veterinary care. In addition to this we also work with the feral cat population. What will you do with this year’s Wish money?
This will be spent on animal food and veterinary bills. It would take the pressure of our valued fundraisers and ensure that more animals could be helped in the next year. What kind of activities take place at your group?
Helping unwanted and injured/neglected animals in the North East area.
We foster animals in our own homes. We are based in the Newcastle/Northumberland and Durham areas. Who is the longest-serving member of your group?
I am the founder – Vicki Withers – and I have been running the group since 2012. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.
We had a very successful pub quiz in The Hussars in Heaton. We are also planning a Northern Soul Night on February 2 next year at The Cluny in Newcastle centre. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?
We have many proud moments, like when a neglected animal is rescued from a bad situation and given a new life filled with love. Why should someone join your group?
We are always on the lookout for new foster homes, so that more rescue animals can be helped.
This gives one a great sense of personal satisfaction and achievement. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?
People making a great community.
