Giving girls a sense of community

TODAY WE TALK TO 1ST NORTH SHIELDS BROWNIES

-

Tell us about your group.

We are a Brownie group formed in November 2009. At the moment we have 19 Brownies, three adult leaders and two Girlguide helpers.

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

Any money that we receive would be greatly appreciated as we are purely self-funding. The money would help us to enable all the Brownies to come with us when we do an exciting activity.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

There are lots of activities that take place in our group, including singing, dancing, painting, cooking and sports.

Who is the longest-serving member of your group? Brown Owl, as she set up the Brownie group. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We recently had a coffee morning and tombola in the church hall along with the ladies of the church. The Brownies received their hostess badges.

It was a great success and was a very busy morning which was attended by lots of parents and members of the local community. All in all a very worthwhile event.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

We are proud to be part of the local community and try our best to help in as many ways as we can.

We’ve really enjoyed taking part in a clean-up campaign and we have recently helped our church by providing hanging baskets made out of tin cans to hang on the railings to provide a splash of colour in suburbia.

Why should someone join your group?

We are a very friendly, happy, outgoing group of Brownies and adults who enjoy having fun and helping others who welcome any new girls into our group with open arms.

What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

Our friendliness, warmth and generosity.
