NEWCASTLE Gems suffered mixed fortunes in their latest Northern Junior Speedway League matches.

They endured a 25-11 defeat to Berwick Border Raiders before overcoming Redcar Cubs 18-12.

Josh Embleton top-scored in both matches with six points and nine points respective­ly. ■■HEBBURN’s St Aloysius Karate Club is seeking new members.

Jointly supported by Sport England, the programme provides female coaches, as well as male coaches from black, Asian and minority ethnic background­s, with a financial contributi­on towards their FA Level Three (UEFA B) in Coaching Football course.

Former Coquet High School students participat­ed in the match in memory of teacher David Coils. ■■THE Northumber­land and Tyneside Senior Cricket League’s Under-18 League Cup final between Tynedale and Whickham was abandoned due to rain with Whickham 42-3 in reply to Tynedale’s 112-5. It will be replayed next year.
