Taylor-made for success

SCOTT RIDES OFF WITH A NATIONAL GIRLS’ TITLE MOTOCROSS

-

A NORTH Tyneside motocross starlet is riding high after winning the UK Girls Nationals title, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

Sixteen-year-old Taylor Scott from Cramlington got on her bike to capture the top honour after fine performances in races at Duns and Wroxton.

Scott, who has been competing since she was 13, enjoyed four wins and a third-place finish at Duns in the Scottish borders.

Wroxton in Oxfordshire was a new track for the youngster but she still secured impressive secondplace finishes in all three day-one races on her Honda cr250f.

Those results put Scott two points behind the championship leader, meaning two wins on the second day of racing at Wroxton would hand her the title.

That is what she achieved to be crowned senior girl UK motocross champion.

That success represents a massive improvement for the teenager, who ended up eighth in last year’s Nationals after winning the 2015 championship on an 85cc bike.

Scott said: “I am so proud of myself but also relieved I did it because I think a lot of people were expecting me to win.

“I did not think it was going to happen after the Saturday at Wroxton as the girl who came second overall had a faster lap time by five seconds.

“She was also leading by two points, which meant I had to win both Sunday’s races.”

Scott has already celebrated many fine performances and results in her burgeoning motocross career - all against male riders.

These included a fourth-place finish in the 2013 North East MXC 85bw Championship and a third place in the 2014 North East MXC 85bw Championship.

She also clinched runners-up spot in the 2014 Blyth Valley MXC 85bw Championship and third in the 2015 North East MXC 85bw Championship, while last year she won the Mandy Saunders Memorial Trophy.

Scott wants to keep riding as a hobby and takes to the track most weekends.

She added: “I just want to enjoy myself but if any sponsors are willing to help me to go that bit further and compete in big events then we will see what happens.”

Scott would like to thank current sponsors #Hubway Plant and Tool Hire of Cramlington and Bike Sport in Newcastle for their support.

She said: “If anyone is interested in taking up motocross I would say go for it.

“A lot of people say it is too dangerous and I should pack up and go dancing, especially my granny!

“Yet it can only be as dangerous as you choose it to be.

“If you don’t feel comfortable doing something don’t do it.

“It is an expensive hobby but I love it. You meet so many new people and make lots of friends.”
