Mohawks blown away by Telford

WHITLEY Mohawks were on their travels to Telford on Saturday and the young side were brushed aside 17-3 in English Under-13 North League Division Two.

The home side were off the mark after two minutes, and by the end of the first period the home side had stretched their advantage to 6-0.

The duo of Mark Zalitis and Daniel Serkins were causing Mohawks plenty of problems.

In the middle period Zalitis completed his hat-trick, while Serkins added a further three to give him five as Telford went 13-0 ahead. Four minutes into the final period, Mohawks’ Lewis Hepburn and Telford’s Zalitis were both dispatched to the dressing rooms for early showers after match penalties for fighting.

Mohawks pulled a goal back at 38.05 when Owen Yarrow struck and the home side struck twice before Yarrow completed his hat trick with a brace of goals at 40.06 and 41.03 both on the powerplay to reduce deficit to 15-3. However Serkins, with his eighth goal of the game, and Ryan Leese completed the scoring.

The teams, who play each other four times, twice home and away, meet again on Sunday when the teams meet at Hillheads (12.30pm).

Whitley Arrows played host to Kingston Sharks in English Under 11 North Division at Hillheads and lost 0-8. The young squad are next in action on October 15 when they play Manchester Storm.

The Junior North League fixtures came out a week ago and are subject to change as they were sent out in draft form for clubs to check with regards clashes with other teams.

On Saturday, Whitley Braves travel to Sheffield Steel City for an English Under-18 North Division Two encounter at Ice Sheffield (5.35pm).

The next day Whitley Renegades are on Teesside to tackle Billingham Stars in an Under-20 League clash at Forum Ice Arena (6pm).
