Girl Guides need your help!

TODAY WE TALK TO 1ST GREAT LUMLEY GUIDES

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

We plan to use any money raised to lower the cost of a trip to Edinburgh continental Christmas market and visit the castle. The guides can use this experience towards a culture badge.

Tell us about your group.

Our present Guide unit has been active since 1990 and at the moment we have 18 Guides, two young leaders and one leader.

We encourage girls to do their best, to become confident and to be able to use their voice in the community on matters they feel strongly about.

But mostly it’s about having fun, making great friends and being given the opportunity to try new experiences.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

Badge work, crafts, games and camping are just a few of the activities that take place.

Who is the longest serving member of your group?

Me, Lesley! I’ve been involved for 27 years.

Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We have had many great events but if you ask the girls it is nearly always the BIG GIG.

This is a pop concert for Guides, usually held in London, Birmingham, Liverpool or other big stadiums big enough to hold about 6,000 at each of the two performances.

In the past we have seen Ed Sheeran, Scouting for Girls and the Vamps to name but a few.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

At the moment we have six girls aged between 15 and 17 who are young leaders and have been in Girlguiding since they joined our youngest section Rainbows when they were five years old.

Why should someone join your group?

To make great friends, try new things and to have fun.

What makes you proud to be from the North East, using five words?

The Geordie sense of humour.
