Ord double but Lady Mags lose
FA WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE NORTH DIVISION ONE
NEWCASTLE United were on the wrong end of a seven-goal clash as Leeds United took the points with a 4-3 victory.
The Lady Mags made a flying start, Steph Ord putting the hosts ahead after six minutes.
However, Leeds were level within 60 seconds, Martina Petrova scoring immediately from the restart, and five minutes later Arianne Parnham netted to put the Whites 2-1 up.
Grace Donnelly made a good save to deny the visitors going 3-1 up before Newcastle equalised through Emma Hewitt 10 minutes from half-time.
Nine minutes into the second period Leeds went ahead again when Charlotte Adams latched on to Jemma White’s through ball.
The Lady Mags brought the scores level again, a second for Ord who headed home after 70 minutes - having earlier missed two good opportunities.
However, 10 minutes from time, White’s inch-perfect pass played in Parnham, her powerful shot going in off the crossbar for what proved to be the winner.
The Lady Mags searched for another equaliser, Rhiannon Grey denied by the goalkeeper.
At the other end, Donnelly produced another good save and it needed a goalline clearance by Jade Clark to stop Liuli Dyson making it 5-3.
Another defeat for Newcastle leaves them second bottom after they lost the midweek derby match with Chester-le-Street Town 3-2.
First-half strikes from Nichole Havery and a own goal gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break.
Maddy Atkinson added a third finish 20 minutes after the restart before two late goals by substitutes Siobhan Jones and Beth Gardener produced a more respectablelooking scoreline for the Lady Mags.
Town made it back-to-back victories after they triumphed 2-0 at Mossley Hill.
Elisha Jones added a late second after an own goal in the first half gave them the advantage.
