MORE than 150 seasonal jobs have been created at a Newcastle call centre that is preparing for a rush of orders over Christmas.

Echo-U is gearing up for one of its busiest periods by looking to fill 155 temporary customer service representative roles working for its largest client, DPD, to handle an increase in demand as more parcels are sent.

Echo-U, based in the city centre, expects to deal with around 125,000 enquiries on behalf of delivery firm DPD in its peak week, a 100% rise on typical enquiry levels.

Seasonal recruits will be responsible for managing customer enquiries over the phone, email, social media and web chats.

Recruitment is now underway, with the company providing training by its customer service experts.

Diana Bourke, managing director at Echo-U, said: “The festive period is certainly an exciting, but busy time at Echo-U.

“As we gear up for a surge in demand we are looking for individuals with an enthusiastic approach to customer service as well as good computer skills.

“With the opportunity to work across an inbound campaign for an award-winning courier, our seasonal roles are ideal for anyone looking for flexible hours or to make some extra money as they prepare for Christmas.

“We also provide a full training programme to ensure people are on track to provide outstanding customer service so experience isn’t essential.

“Our city centre base also means our recruits have access to great transport links in the heart of our bustling city centre and quayside.”

Echo-U’s seasonal positions will run from October 23 to the start of January 2018.

The new jobs come just a few months after Echo U, which was set up in 2001, announced the creation of 150 jobs in Bournemouth as part of plans to expand into different parts of the UK.
