Spartans go Dutch to win two trophies
UNDER-16 FOOTBALL
BLYTH Spartans Juniors Under-16s travelled to Holland to compete in two international football competitions.
The first was the SV Nevelo Football Tournament in Oisterwijk.
Blyth played against teams from Holland, France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Ireland and Scotland.
After winning seven games and securing a 0-0 draw in their other fixture, Blyth took the winners’ trophy without conceding a goal.
The following day the teenage team attended the RSKV Tournament at RSKV Sporting Club, again in Oisterwijk.
The Spartans played against local Dutch teams, confidently claiming a second trophy after winning all of their games - again with no goals conceded.
On their return to the UK the Spartans were invited to play in the National Finals - a prestigious invitation-only tournament in Nottingham - against the best league and cup winners in the country. Team coach Jonathan Rose said: “To win two internatinal trophies is a brilliant achievement for the lads.”
The Spartans are looking to strengthen their already strong squad for the 2017-18 season.
Any players looking for a new challenge and wanting to play in the Pinpoint Recruitment Junior League should contact Jonathan Rose on 07949 613 142.
AMBLE’s Tiny Woods Academy has announced a new partnership with Blyth Spartans.
The link-up will see the Academy sponsor Spartans’ defender Nathan Buddle for the current Vanarama Conference North season.
To promote the deal, Academy youngsters were mascots for Spartans’ fixture with Boston United.
Blyth came out 5-2 winners and Buddle was on the scoresheet.
Academy Director Josh Rutherford said: “We would like to thank Blyth Spartans for allowing this exciting opportunity to happen, the children had a wonderful day.’” Mark Scott, commercial manager of Blyth Spartans, said: “We would like to thank Josh Rutherford and Tiny Woods Academy for linking up with us and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
The Academy has also completed another season of summer football camps at Amble Welfare.
Children participated in technical coaching sessions, including a skill circuit to develop their technical ability, and lots of small-sided games.
A goalkeeping masterclass was also organised.
Rutherford added: “The summer programme was a great success.
“Well done to all the children who attended - they displayed a fantastic attitude as well as taking great strides in their technical development.’
