Worthy causes pledge their case

TODAY WE TALK TO THROCKLEY COMMUNITY HALL

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

We plan to spend any money raised through Wish on building repairs.

The wood panelling around the window is rotten so needs replacing.

All the existing wood needs to be removed and replaced with new to keep the building watertight and warm. Tell us about your group. We are a registered charity established in 1984. Approximately 240 users on a weekly basis use the hall.

We are independently run by eight volunteers and four trustees. What kind of activities take place at your group? From coffee mornings and women’s groups through to dance groups and youth clubs. Who is the longest-serving member of your group? Kitty Taylor, who has been involved for 35 Years. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

Throckley Primary School Year 6 pupils attended a school prom in our hall in July 2017.

All 25 children who were leavers of that school were invited to party with a disco and buffet for two hours.

The prom was organised and delivered by volunteers and local residents.

In their words the children said: “This is mint”. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

Local residents nominated Ann Robinson for a BEM (British Empire Medal) for all the charity and fundraising work she has done over 45 years for our community.

She was awarded her medal at Mansion House, Newcastle, and attended the Queen’s garden party in June 2016. Why should someone join your group? We are a very friendly group and have lots to offer. We have daily groups to help reduce our local residents’ isolation and loneliness by providing a hub for them to attend and socialise with friends old and new. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words? Friendly, generous, kind and honest.
