TODAY WE TALK TO TIME EXCHANGE

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

Funds from this year’s Wish campaign will be put towards the purchase of new kitchen equipment, to allow the Time Exchange to run cookery workshops for our members and local residents.

Tell us about your group.

The Time Exchange operates a community-based time bank and drop-in in the West End of Newcastle.

We support local residents to exchange time and skills with each other.

For every hour of time volunteered, members earn a time credit, which provides access to more than 250 skills and services offered by other members.

The Time Exchange has been active for 17 years and has more than 180 members.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

The exchange of time and skills between members, such as help with literacy and numeracy, computer skills, home repairs, help at home and car lifts to name but a few.

Who is the longest serving member of your group?

Dominic Robinson has been a volunteer for 17 years.

Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We regularly organise group cookery workshops featuring food from all over the world.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

We have celebrated 17 years of providing much -needed support to the local community.

Why should someone join your group?

Volunteering time through the Time Exchange enables access to over 250 skills and services offered by other members.

This allows for innovative solutions to everyday problems without the need for spending money.

The Time Exchange also brings people together from diverse backgrounds, including people from harder to reach groups.

What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

Our diverse and vibrant community.
