SUNSHINE FUND LAUNCH CHRISTMAS APPEAL

- Reporter By KATIE COLLINGS katie.collings@ncjmedia.co.uk @KCollingsNews

BACK in June, you proved just how generous you all are by raising more than £60,000 for The Sunshine Fund to buy specialist equipment for local disabled children in their Go Bananas campaign.

Now the fund are setting their sights on their Christmas appeal and they need your help once again to make a difference to North East children’s lives.

The aim is to raise £30,000 throughout the festive period to support Hadrian School who provide a specialist education for children aged between two and eleven years with a range of additional needs including complex and severe learning difficulties.

The school has recently had funding approved to develop a new, fully accessible Rebound Therapy Centre that can be used by all pupils in order to develop their learning and encourage their development.

The new centre will be invaluable for the pupils and will address various

aspects of their individual needs, providing them with life changing experiences.

Despite having funding for the foundations of the centre, the school still requires an extensive list of equipment to use within the centre that will enable every child to use the facilities in a fun, educational and safe environment. That’s where you come in. There are plenty of ways to get involved in the run up to Christmas including the annual Christmas Jumper Day on Friday December 15 and the Grand Christmas Raffle which will be launched soon and promises incredible prizes.

It may seem a bit soon to be talking about Christmas but it’s never too early to start helping those who really need it.

Chris Rollings, Head at Hadrian School, said: “Thanks to the generous support of businesses, benefactors, grant finding and the Sunshine Fund we will be offering an extensive programme of Rebound Therapy and training to parents, carers, professionals and of course to the disabled community in the region.

“The new centre will be open to children and adults with a wide range of additional needs and will also help to train parents to be able to deliver rebound therapy to their own children over time.

“We are very grateful to our friends from the Sunshine Fund for their ongoing support to this project and we look forward to seeing the benefits rebound therapy will bring to our friends in the disabled community.”

Lauren Thompson, Community Fundraiser for The Sunshine Fund, added: “The Sunshine Fund has an incredible relationship with the staff and pupils at Hadrian School and we are thrilled to announce that we are supporting them in our 2017 Christmas Appeal.

“It is brilliant to be able to see how the support of the region will directly affect the entire school and we can’t wait for the festivities to begin!”
