OUR GIRL BBC1, 9pm

MICHELLE Keegan is back as gutsy army medic Lance Corporal Georgie Lane, in series three of this solid drama that has been a ratings hit for the BBC.

It’s not quite as thrilling as similar army series, watered down a bit with some of the romantic tanglement storylines, but Keegan is engaging on screen.

This time, Georgie joins Captain James (Ben Aldridge) and the rest of 2-section on a humanitarian relief effort in Nepal, following a series of devastating earthquakes.

She is also tasked with mentoring Maisie (Shalom Brune-Franklin), a young reckless new recruit who is a brilliant driver, but has a bad attitude.

Georgie and Maisie have history after previously meeting in Syria on a covert operation, and Maisie’s reckless nature irritates Georgie.

Meanwhile, right from the off, Georgie tells Elvis (Luke Pasqualino) she is not interested in seeing anyone. “I’ve got my career and right now, that’ll do for me,” she insists. But of course, five minutes later she meets Milan (Rudi Dharmalingam), an attractive Nepalese engineer, and a bond starts to form between them.

ALASKA – A YEAR IN THE WILD Channel 5, 9pm

IT’S autumn in the final instalment of this nature documentary, which means the wildlife must prepare for the long, hard winter that is hot on its heels.

This is shot beautifully, with some stunning footage, close-ups with the resident animals, and a touch of that time-lapse photography that allows us to witness the changing seasons.

There is a visit to the brown bears of the Katmai National Park and Reserve – they are some of the biggest in the world and need to build up a thick layer of fat before they hibernate.

Fortunately, an astonishing 300 million salmon are on route back to Alaska after a 1,000 mile journey to spawn in the streams in which they hatched.

That is if they make it and a bear doesn’t catch them first.

The bears have their own problems, especially the mums who are essentially barged out of the way by the dominant males. And there’s more competition from Arctic foxes. But with cubs to feed, they will have to just put themselves in the danger zone.
